Re-signing Edmunds does not alleviate the need for safety, and Edmunds is only back for one season. What happens in 2023 is anyone’s guess at the moment. Does he move on to a new home, or do they bring him back long-term? It all depends on how his 2022 season pans out. Nonetheless, it does not wholly eliminate the option of the Steelers still drafting a safety; the question is, do they take a Lewis Cine or Daxton Hill early on or push it back to the middle or latter part of the draft? If they take the safety need off the table early on, they focus on future needs or positional upgrades. Which honestly is a smart way of drafting; the Steelers are not trying to fill a critical need; instead, they take their highest-ranked player who is still available.
