NFL decision makers feel certain of one thing as they transition from the scouting combine toward free agency and the NFL Draft. They think the Chicago Bears would happily trade the first pick if the price is right. It’s a starting point with seven weeks remaining until the first round begins April 27. What else do NFL teams think about this draft as the scouting combine winds down? They seem pretty sure which players will be taken first and second, but less certain about which teams will do the selecting. Will the Bears find a trading partner? Did Anthony Richardson’s incredible workout Saturday change the order quarterbacks will be selected? For a snapshot view of what teams are thinking right now, I used the first 10 picks as a conversation starter in the hotel lobbies, suites, bars and restaurants where the league gathers each year to investigate college talent and make the sort of in-person connections, many of them spontaneous, that sustain relationships.
