Touchdown Wire

● By Doug Farrar
There’s one thing for sure: You never know who’s going to be a first-round talent in any draft a year before it happens. After the 2022 season, LSU quarterback Jaydan Daniels was a good prospect who had transferred from a tumultuous Arizona State program and led all FBS quarterbacks in rushing yards, but had just 17 passing touchdowns. A year later, Daniels had a credible argument as the best quarterback in the class, and went second overall to the Washington Commanders after a 40-touchdown season in which he won the Heisman Trophy. So, when we look a year ahead with a first-round mock, there’s obviously a lot of speculation. What we can surmise at this point is that the 2025 draft class will not be as packed with quarterbacks as this most recent class was. There’s far more talent on the defensive line, and on defense overall. And after a 2024 class in which there was no running back truly worthy of consideration as a first-round prospect, there’s at least one who NFL teams might not be able to resist. It makes for interesting evaluation, and hopefully, interesting reading. Here’s one first-round mock draft for the 2025 NFL class.
